Tany Meva is an environmental foundation working in Madagascar, with international characteristics and contributing to the goals of the United Nations conventions, mainly the convention on the Biologic Diversity, the convention Climate Changes Frame, the Convention on the Fight against the Desertification through programs that actively engage the local communities.

Our History:
Tany Meva: the first Malagasy environmental foundation

On its creation in 1996, the foundation recognized for public utility is named "Fondation Malgache en Environnement Tany Meva" or Malagasy Environmental Fondation Tany Meva. The foundation has been created from the initiative of the Malagasy Government, represented by the Treasury Department and the American Government, represented by the General Director of USAID and governed by the law on the Foundations in Madagascar (law 95-028 abrogated and replaced by the law 2004-014)
Important dates that mark the life of the foundation since its creation in 1996:

In May 1992, the KEPEM (Knowledge of Effective Policy in Environmental Management) subsidy agreement has been signed between the Government of Madagascar and the Government of the United States that foresees the establishment of a national funding of the environment. The technical assistance for the implementation of the Fondation Tany Meva under the KEPEM project has been carried out between 1993 and 1997. The reception of the first slice of the donation (MGF equivalent of 6,000,000 USD) to a total value of 22,000,000,000 MGF has been done in July 1995.

The 26th January 1996 is the date of the creation of the Fondation Tany Meva according to the inter-ministerial decree N°300/96 and allowing the Foundation to the position of public utility.

The year 1997 has been marked by: in January 1997, the implementation of the Temporary Programme of Subsidy. In April of the same year, the first Administrative board composed by 9 people has been settled.

In May 1997 was the reception of the second and last slice of the donation worth 6,000,000 USD to a total amount of 24,885,240,000 MGF.

The investment policy has been adopted in August. In November, the foundation gets the statute of PVO-NGO delivered by USAID

In April 1998, the foundation get the statute 501© (3) primarily giving exemption of the federal tax on the incomes of the placements to the United States

The Financial Intervention Policy (PIF) has been adopted in February 2000.

In April 2004, the Strategic Plan II from 2004 to 2008 has been adopted.

In 2007, the new Members of the Administrative Board, made up of 7 people have decided to adopt new statutes engendering a new vision and mission for the foundation.

In July 2007, a new project funded by Conservation International, UNF, EPT, Norwegian Environmental Foundation and Tany Meva for the promotion of sites of global heritage Phase II in the cluster South East of Madagascar for the national park of Midongy-Befotaka, has started. The total amount of the funding is 190,000 USD and Tany Meva will bring 90.000 USD.
