ANGOVO MEVA or Renewable Energy

200 solar ovens are distributed in 5 rural communities of Majunga.

A study carried out in the frame of the Program "Energy for all" (World Bank and the Ministry of Environment, Water and Forests) shows that the dependence of the households on the firewood and on the charcoal for cooking respectively ranged at 85.4% and 13.3% of use engenders a massive deforestation of about 25 to 40% of the energy wood.
It has also been noticed the existence of Kits of Renewable Energy/ Efficient Energy (KER/EE), which is proved to be an efficient technique but not well known enough to the households yet. It is not true though to say that it is not accessible because it is expensive.

The Angovo Meva program aims at encouraging the communities to adopt new sources of renewable energy, which are less polluting and, which also, favour the reduction of use of charcoal and firewood by reducing the obstacles that would make it hard to have access to those sources. The main targets are the households with small and average incomes.

Achievements:
For this year 2007, 200 solar ovens and economic hearth were distributed to 200 families after they planted 200 seedlings each. The 40 households departed in 5 rural communities in Majunga have received those oven and hearth as present for the tree planting activity.
